- Measure the room(s) you are interested in getting carpeted.
- Think about the activity that will go on in the room. Is it a high traffic area or just sees mild use?
- Visit multiple stores from carpeting stores to home improvement stores.
- Decide on the quality of carpet you want to get. Find out how long a specific carpeting is going to last. You may want to spend more now for a quality carpet to avoid having to replace it a few years down the road.
- Decide on the protective padding you want to get underneath the carpeting.
- Research the various styles and colors of the carpeting available. When you find a couple you like, get some samples to take home. Use the samples to see how the carpeting would look with your walls and furniture.
- Find out about installation rates. You could lay it yourself, but if you’re not a professional carpet installer then it may not come out well.
- Read about the store’s warranty on carpeting and installation.
